On the method
The map uses an equal-area Albers conic projection with standard parallels at 45.5 and 51.5 degrees. On Mercator the northern units would appear far too large and every areal comparison would be distorted.
The colour classes come from quantiles, not from equal intervals. The distribution is strongly right-skewed; with equal intervals most of the country would fall into a single class.
No third-party map tiles, no externally hosted fonts, no analytics. The map loads files from this site only, which is why it needs no consent banner.
